Overview

Fishing Masters (working title) was a new game at Ten Square Games. As Creative Director I owned the vision, the narrative and the player journey.

The challenge

The original concept, realistic fishing with boats, crews and a captain's management UI, had little room to grow. Moving into fantasy RPGs meant entering one of mobile's most crowded markets.

My role

Creative Director, working with game designers, artists and the wider product team.

What I did

  • Pivoted the concept to heroes travelling through portals across a multiverse, which gave the game endless worlds to explore.
  • Created eight hero classes mixing eras, inspired by Chrono Trigger and Live A Live, and balanced their stats and roles with the designers.
  • Wrote the narrative frame: players join the Drifters, who chase the Celestial Whale that shattered the worlds. It covered heroes, a headquarters, founders and host characters.
  • Wrote and directed most of the dialogue myself, then hired professional writers and directed their work.
  • Planned worlds and enemies to rotate through limited-time events tied to film and TV trends.

Outcome

The game reached an alpha demo released on the store, later removed. The project was then stopped for company strategy reasons, not product or team performance.

What I learned

The cheapest time to pivot is before production. Asking early where a concept can grow saved this one.
